I LOVE Anderson's work - he is coming to our Illinois Reading Council conference next March, and I hope that the new book in the series is out by then.

Given the fact that I feel the same way you do about MT Anderson, I can't believe I still haven't read The Game of Sunken Places. Putting it on the list!

G1000 -- I was on the Printz Committee that selected Octavian 2 for a Printz Honor. So yes.... I think it measured up and then some!

Charlotte, I read that quickly (and also was sick) and thought you said "I am a troll." And was like wha huh? There WAS a troll. And giggling madly at the idea of putting together a booklist of just books that use the word "eldritch." I like the cover -- I know it's kind of retro, but I don't think that it's offputting. The reader who will like this book? Will probably like the semi hipster retroness of the cover, even if they don't call it that. What I think is a bigger disconnect is the video to the book (or maybe that is still me being sick.) I loved the video -- but also thought the video was more selling to the adults than something kids would watch. And, nothing wrong with that because adults buy the books for libraries, select them for the bookstore shelf.

And there's the troll. I liked the troll.

I went back and read my own review. Here is what I said: "In general, I do not give positive reviews to books that use the word "eldritch" with a (more or less) straight face. This book, however, is an exception."

Do you like the cover?

Sounds like an interesting book. I'm really curious: what did you think of Mr. Anderson's second "Octavian Nothing" book. I don't think you ever reviewed it, and I'm curious if you thought it measured up to book 1 (I thought it did).
