SCROLL DOWN TO READ THE POST
L.K. Madigan
L.K. Madigan is the author of Flash Burnout, the winner of the 2010 William C. Morris YA Debut Award for a debut book published by a first-time author writing for teens.
While at ALA Midwinter, I was catching up on blog posts and read Madigan’s Hard News. As she graciously shares, “We arrive in this life not knowing the length or shape of our future … but sometimes we find out. My lifespan is going to fall squarely in the middle. I was recently diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. It has metastasized to my liver.” I’ve read the post a few times now, and it remains as heartbreaking and brave as the first time. And so unfair.

Prayers, good thoughts, positive energy, whatever you believe in, please send out to her and her family.
Selfishly I read Madigan’s news and just thought how lucky I am, how lucky so many of us are.
My review of Flash Burnout; and a so-very-funny interview I did with Madigan for the YALSA Blog. Madigan’s 2010 book is The Mermaid’s Mirror.
Edited to add:
Angie Manfredi at Fat Girl Reading has a terrific post and contest for Flash Burnout, as well as links to the following YA bloggers who have posts, contests, and donations going on in support of Madigan. The other YA bloggers are: Green Bean Teen Queen, YA Librarian Tales, Stacked and the Debs. GalleySmith is also participating but I don’t have a link to her blog post yet.
Edited to add:
Gwenda Bond has information about a surprise for L.K. Madigan over at her blog, Shaken & Stirred. The project itself is being organized by Tiffany Trent and Melodye Shore, so more information is at their sites.
