School Library Journal Battle of the Books, Round 1, Match 3. The Cheshire Cheese Cat v Chime. Judge: Sy Montgomery
Well, buy me a cupcake and call me Aunt Martha, but I did not see that coming. I loved Chime but knew it wasn’t for everyone. I am happy as can be that Montgomery shares the love for this terrific book.
As Montgomery explains, “Billingsley casts a spell more powerful than any witch.”
But that’s not why Montgomery chose Chime. She was equally dazzled by The Cheshire Cheese Cat.. No, Montgomery ruined my brackets because she tossed a coin.
A coin.
The good news is, yay Chime!

I was 2 for 2 before this Match. Out of all the first round matches this was the hardest to pick. And I really had my fingers crossed for The Cheshire Cheese Cat. Though there’s still the undead pick.
Coin toss. Hmmf.
Doret, I’m about 50/50 but what really destroys my bracket is I had Cheshire Cheese Cat going to the final round.
Anon, I understand loving both books — but yes, a coin toss?!?!
