Donna, I wonder what you will think of it; some of the changes may be a "hey, but that's not in the original!" to lovers of the source material. Me, I love the idea of playing with tropes and the bigger story. I have Peterfreund's book in my TBR pile!

I love REBECCA, and I've definitely been wanting to check out NEW GIRL. It definitely sounds worth a read!

For retellings, I just read and LOVED Diana Peterfreund's FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS, a post-apocalyptic retelling of PERSUASION. I've read Austen but not PERSUASION, but this retelling really captures Austen's tone, and the Luddite-ruled world that Peterfreund created feels very historical, though it's set in the future.
