It definitely sounds worth a read! For retellings, I just read and LOVED Diana Peterfreund's FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS, a post-apocalyptic retelling of PERSUASION. I've read Austen but not PERSUASION, but this retelling really captures Austen's tone, and the Luddite-ruled world that Peterfreund created feels very historical, though it's set in the future.
