I’m really looking forward to the second book, Inheritance – due out in September. And as if I needed more reasons to love Malina Lo, I found this gem in her bio: “She studied X-Files fan communities when she was receiving her MA in Anthropology, which is where she got the inspiration for Adaptation and Inheritance.” Love it!

I, too, loved how diversity (ethnic and romantic) in this book is not made into an “issue.” It’s so refreshing to see – more like real life. I liked that Reese’s feelings were ambiguous and confusing – I think there are not nearly enough examples of bi/questioning teen’s experiences in YA lit. The spectrum of variety is far more diverse and beautiful than is usually portrayed in YA lit. So, good on Ms. Lo for not being cookie-cutter!
