Leila, there is something fun about finding a main character like Mab. You know who I was just reminded of, with the combo of arrogance/no empathy? House.

Yeah, as a character, I personally enjoyed Mab enormously because she was so very, very flawed -- but I feel like authors are always taking a real chance in writing an even SOMEWHAT unlikable protagonist, since so many readers (understandably) don't want to spend time with someone unlikable. In real life, though, I don't think I'd want to be friends with her. Or at least, the version of her at the beginning of the book, because of her arrogance, but mostly because of her lack of empathy.
