Exclusive Cover Reveal for Brendan Kiely’s THE OTHER TALK

Oh ho!

You guys got so used to me doing cover reveals for books in 2022 that you totally didn’t notice when I decided to swap in a surprise September release. And surprise it is too! As it turns out, a new book is on our horizon.

Called THE OTHER TALK, the book comes out of many years of discussion between Brendan Kiely and Jason Reynolds, starting on their tour in 2015 for All-American Boys (more here), which won a Coretta Scott King Honor and the Walter Dean Myers Award.

Here’s the description:

Most kids of color grow up talking about racism. They have “The Talk” with their families—the honest talk about survival in a racist world.

But white kids don’t. They’re barely spoken to about race at all—and that needs to change. Because not talking about racism doesn’t make it go away. Not talking about white privilege doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The Other Talk begins this much-needed conversation for white kids. In an instantly relatable and deeply honest account of his own life, Brendan Kiely offers young readers a way to understand one’s own white privilege and why allyship is so vital, so that we can all start doing our part—today.

And, now, the cover:

Here’s the back cover, for kicks:

And, what the heck, let’s give you a taste of the book itself with this selection:

Big time thanks to Lisa Moraleda and the folks at Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. THE OTHER TALK comes out September 21st. Reserve your copy today.
