Links: The return of Captain Underpants

Make room on your shelves, librarians: two more Captain Underpants books are headed your way! The first, entitled Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers, will debut in August 2012; the second, Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers, is slated for a January 2013. Also in the mix are two Super Diaper Baby e-books, will be released on January 31, 2012.

Kazu Kibushi (Amulet, Flight) will be a guest of honor at this year’s Maine Comic Arts Festival, to be held in Portland on May 20th.

Saturday Morning Webtoons, a new all-ages comics portal, debuted this weekend with a line-up of six kid-friendly comics. Contributors include Stephanie Buscema (Rocketeer Adventures), Andi Watson (Glister, Clubbing), J. Torres (Archie & Friends, Wall-E), and Alexander Serra (Teen Titans Go).

Once again, Naruto is king — of the New York Times Manga Bestsellers list, that is — besting such long-standing favorites as Yu-Gi-Oh GX, One Piece, Black Bird, and Maximum Ride.

Looking for an intelligent way to discuss the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with elementary school students? Chris Wilson has some suggestions for using sequential art in your classroom.

On Saturday, January 28th, VIZ Media will be holding a special launch party for Shonen Jump Alpha, their new weekly e-magazine. The event will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the West Hollywood Library in West Hollywood, CA. The event is free and open to the public. More information can be found at the library’s website.

Katherine Dacey has been reviewing comics since 2006.
