Here we go: honor voting!

Votes are weighted: 7 for 1st place, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, and 1 for 1st. We will recognize four Pyrite honors (or Nickel books, since that’s sort of the silver equivalent to pyrite); we are limiting voting to only books that received at least one vote at any level in the Pyrite poll. This is not exactly RealCommittee procedure; it is, instead, a mashup of the straw polling regulations and the Newbery rules, put into play here to account for the fact that we don’t have a real nomination list and so the number of discrete titles we’re looking at could be vast without some limiter.

See below the break for the list of books that are eligible with that rule in place and to vote, as per usual, in the comments. We’ll leave this up until after the New Year, and post results probably on Monday.

Nickeled and Dimed: The Pyrite Printz Honor Vote

Well, we’ve got our winner, so now we need our honor books.

Procedure for honor books is almost, but not quite, the same as procedure for the winner.

All nominated titles are eligible, whether of not they received any votes in the voting rounds to determine the winner.

You may vote for up to four title, but do not need to vote for all four slots. Votes should be numbered and will be weighted — 7 points for first place, 5 for second, 3 for third, and 1 for fourth.

So go forth and vote! We’re down to the wire, but we’re also in the midst of ALA travel, so we’ll leave the poll open until… Saturday night, 8 pm-ish. Try to vote BEFORE reading all the results (Miriam, I’m looking at you!) if you want to more closely imitate RealCommittee practice, since they vote blind. Or read the results and do the math, as you choose!

Here’s the nominated title list, again, minus Pyrite winner Boxers & Saints: [Read more…]

And the Silver Goes To…

The Pyrite version of silver is nickel, right? Wait. What? Apparently we are just as bad at chemistry as we are at math. Used under CC license from flickr user yaybiscuits123.

Honor Vote Time!

Honor book voting policies are weirdly absent from the RealCommittee P&P, but we checked in with a number of friends and colleagues, including at least one former RealCommittee Chair and one former RealCommittee Admin Assistant to make sure we had it down. And so we are ready to put the honor book voting procedures into black and white for all to see.
