2013 Judge: Lynne Rae Perkins

Lynne Rae PerkinsLynne Rae Perkins is the author/illustrator of six picture books and three novels for older readers.    Her picture books Home Lovely and Snow Music were Horn Book Honor Books, and her novel Criss Cross was awarded the 2006 Newbery Medal.

Most recently, she illustrated Seed by Seed, the Legend and Legacy of John “Appleseed” Chapman, a picture book written by Esme Raji Codell.  She is currently drawing illustrations for a middle-grade novel of her own.

Lynne Rae lives with her family in a tiny town on the edge of a bay of Lake Michigan, but she likes traveling to other places, too.  Like Buenos Aires. Or that town in New York State that has the Jell-O museum.

She is looking forward to being blown away by two really great books.  Maybe they’ll be gems she wouldn’t have stumbled across on her own.  Bring it on, B.O.B.!

  1. Oh Wow-o-Wow. I’m bouncing in my chair.

In ALL ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE, I think Perkins wrote one of most heart-rending books a former best friend could ever read. And how I wish I could find more books as fun as AS EASY AS FALLING OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

  2. Now you’re cooking with gas, BoB! This lady is basically my children’s lit hero. Can’t wait to see (read?) her in action!

  3. Battle Commander Battle Commander says

Has anyone been keeping track of how many Newbery winning and honor authors we’ve so far had the good fortune of having them as BoB judges?

  4. I’m floored by all the judges this year! I’m just floored! I absolutely loved all Alone in the Universe and former BoB , As Easy As Falling Off The Face of the Earth! Cannot wait to see what the judges will read!!
