TeacherTube: Top Fives
My January Teacher Tube newsletter arrrived yesterday with three top five lists for 2008: most viewed, top favorites, top rated.
There’s some fun stuff in this sampling. The list might be a good way to get a reluctant teacher to try using streamed media in the classroom. It might inspire other teachers to create and share their own best examples of instruction using video.
Among my favorites on the TeacherTube list is Our Hero Mohamed Sidibay, a video documenting the efforts of 4th grade students in Ontario to help a former child soldier get to school.

If deadly PowerPoints are a problem at your school, Don McMillan’s How NOT to do PowerPoint, may be useful at faculty meetings and with older students:
For the math teacher, suggest Mr. Duey’s Fractions Video:
Duey, a rapping Michigan teacher, makes fractions entertaining.
Another rapping teacher, Mrs. Burk presents her Perimeter Rap:
For the art teacher, suggest Be Kind to Your Erasers. Though Mrs. F. warns the children to take care of their new art materials, they mistreat their erasers and must suffer their revenge.
Also making this particular group of top five lists are a few now essential edtech classics:
Pay Attention, the video that poses the question: Why do so many teachers refuse to enter the digital age with their teaching practices?
Did You Know by Karl Fisch and Did You Know 2.0 (also by Karl) provide a compelling wake-up call on globalization for Western students. Not only is the content of these videos important, they are responsible for inspiring a new, very accessible style for video production.
