DAQRI for your science teachers: Elements 4D and Human Body Anatomy 4D
As you get ready to reconnect with your favorite science teachers this fall, you’ll want to share two fabulous apps by the augmented reality developer DAQRI.
This is a different kind of block play likely to engage new fans of chemistry. Using either paper or wood six-sided blocks inscribed with the symbols of 36 elements, in its atomic mode, the app offers information from the periodic table–atomic weights, fun facts, etc.–as well as a 4D representation of the element. Bump two of the blocks together, and in the app’s chemical reaction mode, to see the catalyst, resulting compound and the reaction’s chemical equation.
You can download, print, fold and build paper versions of the blocks for free; a set of interactive wooden blocks will soon be available. Simply aim the app viewer at the blocks and the element or the compound will come to life!

Standards-aligned lesson plans and supporting organizers are available for elementary, middle and high school chemistry classrooms.
You can’t do this with any anatomy text or in any high school lab.
Available for iOS and Android, Anatomy 4D allows our students to journey inside the human body in compelling and interactive ways, observing the spatial relationships of our organs, skeleton, muscles, and body systems.
Students may explore details of the entire body, select a male or female model, experience separate organ systems by turning them on or off, and use newly added image targets, including a spectacular model of the heart.
Check out Drew Minock’s overall demo of the app.
And his video demo of the new heart target.
Or, download the app and point its viewer at one of these targets from the Target Library to experience the body 4D-style.
