Earth Day 2012 Blu-ray and DVD Giveaway

As a change of pace, and to celebrate Earth Day, I thought I’d give away some terrific media before getting directly into some related media literacy issues over the next few days.

And, thanks to the generous folks at BBC America, I have some special goodies for you…

OCEAN GIANTS, released last month, represents the first DVD/Blu-ray combo pack that BBC Home Entertainment has made available in the U.S. market. It’s roughly three hours on whales and dolphins, and it’s not just the warm-and-fuzzy stuff you’ve seen a thousand times. This is serious science every step of the way. Four of these items are on hand.

BBC HIGH DEFINITION NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTION WITH PLANET EARTH SPECIAL EDITION contains—get this—over 19 hours of programming and over 8 hours of bonus material. And the best part? That’s all on Blu-ray discs, 10 of them. If you’ve never seen the spectacular Planet Earth, you’re missing out. If you have, then I need say nothing further. But this box set also has the Tilda Swinton-narrated Galapagos as well as Wild China and Ganges. I’m looking at two of these I’d like to give to readers.

BBC NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTION WITH PLANET EARTH SPECIAL EDITION is not just the above collection minus the high-def. Yes, it also includes the award-winning Planet Earth but it features the equally stunning The Blue Planet, too. Rounding things out are The Life of Birds and The Life of Mammals, which I consider contemporary classics of their type. These are all narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and kids love them, in case you were curious. So we’re talking 18 discs—more than 33 hours of programming, and more than 12 hours of bonus material. There are a couple of these box sets to take off my hands.

So here are the rules:

  1. You must have a U.S. or Canadian mailing address to which I’ll be shipping.
  2. “@” me on Twitter with the hashtags #EarthDay and #ConnectThePop in the tweet. (I’m @Peter_Gutierrez.)
  3. Everyone who does this between now and 11:59 pm EST on April 22 will be entered into the drawing that will take place next week.
  4. If you don’t have a Twitter account, just have a friend or colleague enter on your behalf—if they win, I’ll mail the discs to him/her and you’ll work it out from there. (Or start your own Twitter account in a couple of minutes, and just close it when this giveaway is over.)
  5. I’ll notify you on Twitter, not here, if you’ve won one of these items, and if you don’t respond within 48 hours, I’ll simply draw another name.

Thanks… and good luck.
