TL Tube? Part 2
My search for teacher-librarian/school library video, continued from the last post:
Elementary librarian Doug Valentine, a.k.a. Dr. Loopy, a member of our TeacherLibrarianNing, recently posted three very clever, tongue-in-cheek videos about school libraries and school librarians. I later discovered that these are but three of his many funny efforts posted on TeacherTube.
He’s given us some great models for new productions and some entertaining material for inservices.
- Agent Codee Books fights an evil Lexile character who prevents children from reading books they themselves choose
- Blind Date explores classroom teacher/librarian collaboration in reality television, pop-up video style
- Bionic Librarian shares an updated librarian image, with an outstanding super power: collaboration.
A cool school library rap: Saint Joseph Notre Dame (Alameda, CA) High School Library Rap features three teens who rap about their ‘brary with Mrs. Smith, their awesome, very cute, very young librarian.

Another lovely librarian, this one with a talent for solitary dance, stars in S.G. Love Elementary Library’s I Love My Library.
And this seems like an appropriate time to share some of my own video efforts with our Springfield students and teachers. We’re not there yet, but we get a little better with each production. Ben F. prepared a very professional-looking orientation for me to use with the 8th grade in September. We continue to add to our grammar series which addresses our non-negotiables for student writing. Our information skills series includes: How to Make Google Go, Databases are Different, What’s the Fuss about the Thesis, and What about Wikipedia? We are working on book trailers to promote our required reading and podcasts to attack confusing vocabulary.
My search yielded a great number of podcast and webcast booktalks. I’ll share those in my next post!
I know I’ve missed a potential goldmine of wonderful school library video from around the world. Please share any favorites in your comments!
And though they have little to do with school library video efforts, these are too funny to miss:
- Gorilla Librarian (Monty Python)
- Your Life Work “The Librarian” (and old government video)
- Angry Librarian (What not to do with students and color copiers)
- Conan the Librarian
