Google docs get templates (and other big Google news)
For those of you who haven’t yet found a compelling reason to try Google docs . . .
Google docs recently announced the addition of 309 templates, a Google Docs directory, to give folks an opportunity to make their calendars, and letters, resumes, photo albums, invitations, labels, and business forms.
Educational offerings include paper templates, syllabi, gradebooks, schedules, attendance forms, lesson plans, and a very simplified MLA style sheet.
I am not much of a template fan but some of these look like real timesavers. User ratings may be a solid guide to which of the 309 are most worthy of a test drive. Previews are available. You may open a template directly from the directory or from select templates from the pull-down menu when you open a new document.

The site explains:
A template gives you a quick start towards creating a document, spreadsheet, or presentation. Each template has boilerplate content and preset design styles that are meant to be reused. (…) You can then edit the document, replacing boilerplate text and images with your own.
In other news, earlier this week Google announced it is to stop development on its popular Google Notebook feature. Blog reaction has already been strong. Though the service itself will continue, an online petition urges Google to reconsider its decision regarding development.
And, in perhaps even bigger Google news, Gdrive is coming. It may change the way we work. Will we soon be saving all our docs to Google’s servers?
